Step 1 — Prep the Base (3–5 min)

Lightly sand edges if needed. Wipe dust away.

Step 2 — Paint the Sky (10–12 min) (Optional)

Paint the wooden round in sky colors—dusk blues, sunrise pinks, or moody twilight. Blend while wet for a gradient.

Pro tip: Work from light to dark in horizontal bands, then feather together.

Step 3 — Paint Mountains & Trees (8–12 min)

Use earthy tones for mountains and a darker shade for tree silhouettes. Add lighter “snow caps” with a dry brush.

Step 4 — Lettering Color (5–8 min)

Choose a bold contrast for the phrase so it pops. For ultra-clean edges, trace letters with your paint pen after drying.

Step 5 — Test Layout (3–5 min)

Dry-fit mountains, trees, and phrase on the base. Lightly pencil guide marks.

Step 6 — Glue It Down (5–8 min)

Glue large shapes first, then the phrase. Press 10–15 seconds per piece.

Pro tip: If your base has a strong curve in the grain, glue the center first, then press outward.

Step 7 — Add Stars & Details (4–6 min)

Flick tiny stars with a paint-loaded brush or dot them with a pen. Add a crescent moon, snow speckles, or metallic ridge lines.

Step 8 — Seal & Hang (3–5 min + dry)

Brush on Mod Podge in thin, even coats (front and edges). When dry, tie or glue the jute rope to create a hanger.

Style Ideas

Sunset ridge: coral-to-purple sky + white lettering

Evergreen: deep teal sky + gold-lined mountains

Minimal mono: grayscale mountains + matte black phrase

Troubleshooting

Letters not sticking: Too much paint underlayer—lightly scuff the back of the letters and re-glue.

Bleeding gradients: Too much water—blend with paint, not water, and let layers flash-dry.

Cloudy sealer: Mod Podge applied too thick—use thinner coats and allow full dry between.

FAQs

Can I stain the base instead of painting?

Absolutely—stain first, let cure, then glue and seal.

Will Mod Podge yellow?

It dries clear. For outdoor display, add a final UV-resistant spray.
